SYMPOSIA+EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOPS+ROUNDTABLE CONVERSATIONS+POSTERS
Conference Theme:
The 2018 ASPP Autumn Conference, Meeting the Needs of the Insufficiently-Served: Social Justice in Practice, Education, and Community, will focus on bringing together organizations-, professionals, and graduate students in California working with insufficiently-served populations. This conference will provide the opportunity to participate in experiential workshops and roundtable discussions, as well as attend symposia and a poster session dedicated to topics pertaining to social justice in practice, education, and community. We would like to promote collaborative discussion, acceptance, cultural competence, awareness, and open minds in the pursuit of social justice.
Call For Proposals:
We encourage you to frame your proposals to align with the conference theme “Serving the Insufficiently-served: Social Justice in Practice, Education, and Community.” Proposals can be in the following formats: (i) symposium, (ii) experiential workshop, (iii) poster, or (iv) roundtable conversations. Please allow ample time in your interactive presentation for audience participation.
Presentation Proposals:
Proposals may address, but are not limited to, the following topics within professional psychology:

Culturally-informed leadership constructs, values, and social justice practices

Developmental and/or acquired disability

Technology and diversity or social justice
-
Working with immigrant communities in professional and health service psychology

Confronting the challenge of diversity in clinical psychology graduate programs

Social justice assessment
-
Ethics and culture
-
Sexual orientation and gender diversity

SES/social class diversity training in professional and health service psychology

Navigating leadership obstacles
-
Power and privilege
-
Pathways to practice –strategies for establishing a culturally competent practice
Presentation Formats:
-
Experiential Workshop: In a 90 minute session, facilitator(s) guide the audience members through experiential exercises that focus on self-awareness and encourage the use of the self to learn about social justice. While there may be the sharing of information, the primary focus on learning in a kinetic manner. These exercises should include a component that participants can replicate and continue to use in academic, clinical, and community settings.

Symposiums: In a 60 minute session, two or three presentations will be given around a common theme. An expert discussant may provide feedback and initiate an interactive discussion. A symposium proposal submission must include one program summary of each presentation. It must also clearly indicate the titles and contents of each presentation within the symposium. No individual paper proposals for symposium presentations are accepted.

Roundtable Discussion: In a 90 minute session, facilitator(s) introduce an important topic that impacts academic, clinical, and community-based components of social justice. Specific questions may be prepared by the facilitator(s) to foster an interactive dialogue between the facilitator(s) and the audience participants.

Poster Proposals: Poster submissions are welcomed that reflect the conference theme and/or the topics provided above. Posters are displayed during a poster session, during which time attendees are invited to interact with poster presenters.

Contact information for the lead author (email and preferred phone number)

Names, degrees, and program affiliations of additional authors

Title of proposal (maximum 25 words)

An abstract describing the content and method of the presentation or poster

Proposal Rating Criteria---Proposals will be graded based on the following criteria:

All proposals will be reviewed by the Social Justice Conference Planning Committee:

Submitters will be notified by email upon receipt of their proposals
-
Submitters may be asked to alter the format of their proposal to best accommodate conference program scheduling

Primary proposal author must be on-site during the presentation time

Submission decisions will be sent via email by August 17th, 2018.
